Parkour

This video surprised me. I didn't know that Parkour isn't popular amongst the ladies.

Maybe it's because I have such a crush on Parkour. I assume other women want to run, flip, and glide off of things too.

Parkour is this beautiful combination of running and strength training. Not to mention you look cool doing it and it's a cheap enough activity. All you need is a pair of sneakers/trainers and the world.

One of my summer resolutions is for Jonathan and I to start training up together following the warm up as listed on the American Parkour website.

The warm up.

3 Rounds:

15-25 Squats

10-15 Pull-Ups
10-15 pushups

5 Samson Stretch Each Side

Agility Work- Mark a 10-rung ladder on the floor, each rung 12-18 inches apart. Perform the following agility drills as a circuit, repeat 2-3 times:

High Knees, one step per-block

High Knees, two steps per-block

Side-step, two steps per-block

High Knees, backwards, one step per-block

Butt-kicks, one step per-block

Burpee/Quadrapedal Movement- Perform 5-count burpees, one count for each movement, in control. After 3, perform :30-1:00 of random, varied quadrapedal movement. Repeat as needed or as you feel inspired to.

Eventually I want to take an adult gymnastics class to improve my flexibility and strengthen up my upper body.

But for now, I'm working on being able to do a set of push ups and pull ups. It's going to be a while before you see me bouncing around Tallahassee.

Couch to 5K training has been moved back to the To Try pile.

The new thing I am currently trying is drawing a web comic. This is definitely a learning experience in the classic "trial by fire" school of education. I don't have an account at a web comic hosting site. I went with Blogger.

I update on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It's semi-autobiographical.

Today I begin Couch to 5K training.

Couch to 5K or C25K is a program that trains up your body slowly to take on a 5K run.

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

The program lasts for nine weeks. It consists of three days a week of training. In the first week, your session lasts for 20 minutes. By week nine, your session lasts for 30 minutes.

I'll be training with my husband. This should be interesting considering how athletic he already is.
